Today I got a great resource link via my Joomla! RSS feed of the Joomla! Developer Network.
Barry North from Compassdesign has brought us a Sample Chapter of his new Joomla Book.
You must know that I rank Barry North as a very Good Resource and highly knowledgeable person as it comes to Joomla!.
And when it comes to writing about Joomla! and Template building, then I don’t know anybody who can top him.
So I downloaded the Sample chapter from the Joomla Developer Network, expecting it to be a small pdf document.
Instead I got the sample chapter, but also three free learning Templates to get started with it!!
And I most say, that you really have to download this great resource, just to give it a try.
You will learn how to create a very good template, based on CSS and not Tables.
If you use CSS instead of tables, then you win on all points if it comes to Search Engine Optimization for your Joomla website.
And if you are done with this tutorial, then hurry over to Joomla 1.5: A user Guide and Sign Up for this new Joomla Book!!
I think you won’t be disappointed to get your hands on this great resource.
O, and if you are at the site of Compass Design, don’t forget to look at Barry’s Joomla Administrators Manual that brings you a Hands-On-Tutorial for working with your Joomla site today.
P.s. as a special bonus to go with this post I have a link to a great CSS Cheat Sheet to use when reading the Template Tutorial

Great tutorial. CompassDesign does a great job, and you do a good job pointing people in the right place so they can get started making Joomla templates.
Great reference site re Joomla templates. Joomla is great for templating but it is hard to know where to start. So kudos.
Yes CSS wins hands down. Nuff said.
Hiya, thanks so much for posting. I decided to try Joomla after a few issues with WordPress and started off with the user guide. Was a lot of help for me and I’ve used some of the other resources you have here to get on with things. It’s so much better than WordPress for what I need.
